week 06.24.16

Finally it's Friday and today in LA we didn't wake up to scouring heat...YAY! Not much to report on as it's been a week of just trying to stay cool. Gearing up for lots of summer travel and doing some major research on camping spots across America.

SELF-CARE:
Happy to report that my "no coffee" practice has been going strong for a week and I feel great. I was recently tested on a trip to Starbucks and survived without ordering a single beverage...a tiny victory for this girl. I'm trying to substitute bad habits with new, positive ones and in doing so make self-care a top priority. In honor of that, I treated myself to an amazing Ayurveda treatment called Shirodhara at Burke Williams Day Spa in Sherman Oaks. (I had a gift card from my brother that I squirreled away for 7 years!) The massage was wonderful and very meditative. A new service at Burke Williams, I may not have tried if it wasn't for my mentor who suggested it in a recent meeting. This is not your traditional massage of working out any muscle kinks, as the massage itself is very gentle and loving. The intention for the treatment is to calm and center you – especially towards the end of the service when there is a constant, gentle flow of herbal oils that's slowly poured on to the third eye area. The experience is a must, I highly recommend booking an appointment asap.

LOVE:
It's no secret I love animals and that I'm obsessed with my pets. I'm kicking myself that I didn't take photos like this guy of Buju, Willie Nelson and Kukui. What a great way to document your ageless love!

INSPIRATION:
I absolutely adore Jennifer Harrison from Flea Market Fab. I met her this year for coffee and have to say she's the real deal: sweet, authentic and is fun! So when I saw her post that she's featured on Holistic Fashionista I had to read and share. Check out her out. It's a heavenly dose of inspiration and the photos by Carlay Page are AMAZING!

Speaking of inspiration and Holistic Fashionista, I stumbled upon this article about how to control your energy with reiki. Has me thinking of a career change. ;)

FOOD:
When it's hot, I can't stop craving ice cream. I will admit that I like to substitute dinner with dessert during the holiday season. Today I'm getting the science update on ice cream thanks to Lucky Peach

A pie chart I like can be found on Lucky Peach as well. This article has 44 ideas to help you quickly figure out how to make that ice cream pie delicious with all the right pairings. Read here.

Raindrops are coming to Los Angeles and we aren't talking about actual rain. Check out these crazy desserts that look like a dewdrop. Definitely need to test out Raindrop Cakes myself – they looks insane and oddly hydrating.

ON REPEAT:
Loving Brace for Impact from Sturgill Simpson. It's got the bluesy, country vibes that are great for this summer. The video is a little dark but I like the artistry of it. Check it out:
