#happyhourclub: tacos tu madre
By now I've mentioned a few times that Sam and I are in a new hood. Gone are the days of riding our bikes to Proof Bakery in Atwater Village. While it's sad to have left our favorite little neighborhood, our new one has plenty to offer as well. There are more coffee shops in a 2 mile radius than I could have ever dreamed of and normally where there's coffee, there's breakfast. Yay breakfast and brunch!
That brings me to Tacos Tu Madre, a brightly colorful taco stand that's located on Vermont near Franklin in Los Feliz. On my way to Starlight Books for our friend's upcoming book release, I found Tacos Tu Madre in the nick of time as my blood sugar was hitting an all time low. I had skipped breakfast, a habit I've been itching to correct, and needed food asap. Now that I've gone pescetarian, it can be challenging to find food quickly that fits with this new lifestyle. Thankfully Tacos Tu Madre heard my cry. Their menu is stacked with options for us non meat-eaters. You can decide on burritos, bowls or tacos. On first visit I grabbed a breakfast burrito with truffle oil drizzled on top of fried eggs and then second visit nabbed a fried fish bowl. I have to say both times were delicious. Now let's be real: this is a taco stand that's doing traditional street tacos so don't be surprised when you see the prices. They are higher due to the ingredients. You're not getting $2 tacos here. I'm totally ok with that as I eat Mexican food at least five days a week. Not kidding. So I need variety and sometimes a fancier version of a street taco. Next time I'm visiting I'll be hitting up the red velvet churro, as according to yelp, that's the bomb.
