Dedicated to Mama: Songs for Mom on Mother's Day
Today is all about mom and what better way to honor her than with a song on Mother's Day? Well, get ready because thanks to Flower Muse, Sam and I have brought something extra special to the blog today. We have gathered up our family and a few good friends to share with you what song captures our moms and why. Those classic moments of dancing around and singing with our leading lady, which I'm sure all of you can relate to, somehow had to be shared so let's get this party started:
Sam: Macavity: The Mystery Cat
If anyone knows me, I'm pretty big into musicals which my mom introduced me to. It's kind of our thing and I thank her for that.
Citizen Dom: Barbara Mason "Yes, I'm Ready
When everyone was getting close to ready to leave the house, she would sing energetically "Are you ready?" at which point Sam or I were supposed to echo "Yes, I'm ready." Repeat lines again... That would usually be the end of it, if anyone even responded the first time. On special versions of this routine Mom would continue with the next lines, "To fall in love, to fall in love, yes I'm ready." I don't know how Sam and I got so deep into music.
Marc Anthony: Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen
For some reason I took this upon myself to think every time this song came on that my mother was sending me a message—nothing like a little Queen to keep you in line.
Renee: Down in the Boondocks by Billy Joe Royal
We would sing it at the top of our lungs during our many adventures.
Eric: Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd and Thrift Shop by Macklemore
Not so much because of the lyrics, but more because of the grandiose nature of the song. And it fucking rocks. Anything less just wouldn't do for my mom.
I would dedicate Thrift Shop by Macklemore to my step mom, cause we hit that shit like crazy.
Wayne: Seven Spanish Angels by Willie Nelson & Ray Charles
It's a song I remember hearing when I was in the car with mom. Just Mom, me and Willie Nelson. Classic.
Marissa: Palisades Park by Freddy Canon
Like my brother, my classic moment has to be listening to music in the car with Mom. In one epic adventure, while escaping to Mount Lemmon to avoid the summer heat, we were jamming to Palisades Park. Minutes later our car died, leaving us stranded on the side of the mountain until Dad came. You'd think we would be upset but instead we cracked open the snacks and enjoyed some quality time together.
Editor's Note: By total coincidence, Sam & Citizen Dom picked the EXACT same song for their mother. This special song is Louis Jordan "Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby". In separate emails received this week, they both pretty much said the same thing: that she would play it up and sing it in "a deep voice, night club style". Well Mrs. B, here is an extra special dedication just for you. :)
Have a song you want to dedicate to mom? Well, here is your chance. Comment below and we'll send her a dedication with a special post! Thank you again to Flower Muse for such beautiful peonies. Your flowers and customer service are beyond amazing.
