Happy Earth Day!
Ever since I was a kid, I have LOVED Earth Day. Thanks to Mom always letting me buy those recycling books that were listed in the scholastic book sale. This day is important because we are reminded that we only have one Earth and it needs to be taken care of. Put down the phone (yes that's a hard one) and look around you. Abre los ojos: Open your eyes!
Yesterday while Sam and I were exploring Leo Carrillo State Park it amazed us how lucky we are to have a playground that is so beautiful and filled with curiosities. What I didn't like was the garbage, dead seagull and people picking at tide pools for souvenirs. What has happened to our playground? We are not entitled to act like slobs all over the planet. Not cool. So in order to combat this lack of respect, double, NO, triple your efforts for items like recycling, conserving water and for heaven sakes, speak up! See an animal in distress, find a way to help. Support your local businesses that have the same mission. Walk or bike to grab coffee from that local barista. It only takes 1 person to start the change. Be a leader not a follower. Case in point: one afternoon, at Pan Pacific Park, my friends and I were working out and noticed kids throwing the garbage cans upside down and laughing at the litter flying all over. Well, guess what? We marched over there and spoke up. We didn't yell but simply explained to them how uncool it was. Yes, I felt it was a little dangerous and a little Mister Rogers at the same time but they picked up the trash and apologized. The kids realized that the park was their spot too. Why make it crappy? Ok, enough of me being on my biodegradable soap box.
