no. 2: angela lansbury

Confession: I adore Angela Lansbury.

Yes, it's true. I am a huge fan of Mrs. Lansbury and yes, Murder, She Wrote is currently on while I write this post.

This admiration for Mrs. Lansbury begin with the magic of Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Like my fear of David Bowie in Labyrinth (it was his tight pants - hey, i was 7 years old!), I was terrified of Miss Price (my younger self was not a fan of discipline). Now, why on earth am I sharing this confession today? Well, there really isn't a reason other than celebrating one amazing woman and you can blame Netflix for that.

You see, thanks to Netflix and the freedom to access all 13 seasons (1984-1996) of Murder, She Wrote this opportunity has allowed me to be transported back to the 80s and early 90s. What can I say? The nostalgia is intoxicating and the perfect excuse for decompressing after a long day. { Sidebar: Pop culture and I are on a break. I can't deal with one more reality show or newsflash that revolves around sensationalism. Now back to Lansbury. } While when I first stumbled across the murder mystery drama in the "suggest for me" a couple of years ago, I thought it would be a fun challenge to watch all 246 episodes. Little did I realize that this bucket list item would take me about a year. Reality check: I didn't sit in front of the TV nonstop...I do have a solid social life. The perks of this challenge resulted in memories of priceless quality time with my Granny and inspiration for one of my favorite birthday bashes to date: the Murder, She Wrote theme brunch. If you haven't seen it, well here you go.

Speaking of parties, let's talk fashion. The wardrobe stylist from the show deserves one hell of an applause. The plethora of awesomeness is pretty outrageous. We're talking 80s power suits WITH shoulder pads, accessories that deserve their own close ups and killer sequins for all those "to die for" cocktail parties. I guarantee you'll be visiting Ebay's and searching for classic threads like a color block mini skirt or 90s fave: man tank. It's kind of crazy to think these 13 seasons could serve an epic resource for all the best and worst of fashion...faux-pas, glamour and more!

Where there's fashion, there's also celebrities. The show provided future stars like Courteney Cox, George Clooney, Andy Gracia (and many more) a notch in their IMDB filmography. The treasure trove of celebrity spotting adds an interesting twist to the game of watching this old school drama. As for my favorite celebrity guest appearance? Jessica Walter, aka Lucille Bluth from Arrested Development. She played not one character but two! Now we know why she was so thirsty on Arrested Development. ;)

In honor of Mrs. Lansbury and her epic career, I created a couple of fun patterns featuring my favorite selects of her found via pinterest and a couple of quotes for the record books. Cheers to one FABULOUS woman!
