The Halloween Magic of Christopher Ables

Just because Halloween got canceled doesn't mean we have to nix the witchy side of things. It's all about the fun, spooky flicks of the past that I can't wait to dive into once October hits. This year, I stumbled upon illustrator Christoper Ables. The character work that he has created is out of this world magical. Check it out for yourself in the gallery below.

Since we're on the topic of favorite Halloween movie, here are our top watches for this week:

  1. Hocus Pocus: The Sanderson Sisters have put a spell on all Halloweens. Add in Binx the cat and game over for ultimate Halloween films.

  2. Mr. Boogedy: This one is from my childhood. It leans towards lame but it’s also kid friendly.

  3. Beetlejuice: Please don’t say his name three times. I’d like to avoid anymore shit in 2020.

  4. Scream: The first one still freaks me out. The scene with Drew Barrymore ruined jiffy pop for life.

  5. Clue: Classic and over the top ridiculous.

  6. Death Becomes Her: The two leading ladies will have you rolling over in your grave laughing. Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep at their best.

  7. Queen of Halloween: Elvira. Truly the Queen. If you don’t know her, google it.

  8. Harry Potter Collection: The further you get into the series, the darker it gets. Creepy.

  9. Coco the Movie: The colors of the marigolds and ancestral magic is enough to crossover for.

  10. The Craft + The Craft: Legacy: Old school Craft with new school recent release is double trouble.

  11. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: I didn’t believe that Sabrina could get that dark but damn, it’s pretty sinful. Like scary sinful.

Ok, probably best to be honest here, but this list represents what I like to watch. Sam leans more into the scarier horror movies, which I can't handle. Complete scared cat over here thanks to my older brothers tormenting me with 80s favorites: Pet Cemetery, Children of the Corn, and Jaws. Ugh. I once had a heart attack at a haunted mansion when Freddy Krueger tapped on my shoulder while buying a princess wand. Yes, this is 100% true. The guy felt so bad that he ended up dancing around to stop me from crying. Ha, if he only knew I"m still that scared of him today! For me, Halloween is all about the fun of dressing up, eating way too much candy, and diving into rituals for Samhain. While I'm utterly heartbroken that we don't get our usual round of trick or treaters, I'm happy that we still have a chance to be mystified by the magic of Halloween art like Christopher Ables.
