How Watching Earthing the Movie Changed My Life

Quick question, but how much digital content have you consumed in 2020? Since social gatherings are pretty much a social faux pax, most of us have plenty of time to fill. I can honestly say that I've watched more Netflix and Prime in 2020 then the last three years combined. So one day, I was just totally over it. Clicking through from one platform to the next, I decided to hit YouTube for a quick George Constanza montage. What happened instead, I could not see coming. My regular suggested videos included a movie who's cover art featured a pair of bare feet. (Eek) Since my eyes couldn't look away, I knew I had to click. To my relief, YouTube's algorithm got it right. It was a movie centered around mind, body, and spirit called Earthing the Movie. My commitment to my TV screen was on like donkey kong.

Little head's up: ever since the pandemic started, I had been struggling with hip pain, tinnitus, sciatica, and depression. A real fun combo while being quarantined. So what Earthing was offering was right in line with what my soul was craving: more time in nature with the bonus of self-healing. Yes, count me in.

Now it's one thing to watch a movie, but Earthing got me thinking. Let's test this out. Is what Earthing is suggesting possible? Can I ground barefoot on the grass and heal my aches and pains? Since I had plenty of time available to test this out, I decided it was time to head to the beach and bury myself in the sand.

And that's what I did. I buried my lower half in the sand like a damn sand crab. The warm beach sand felt terrific. My immediate thought was: maybe this could work.

As we made our way back to the car, my hip didn't hurt that much. I didn't feel as depressed either. I prayed it would last but sadly, my pain came back a couple of days later. To make sure this wasn't a placebo effect, I decided I better give this more time. I can't expect instant gratification just because I tried it once.

So for about six months now, I've been religious about grounding—any chance I could get. My commitment was a daily dose of negative ions from Mother Earth, about 20 to 30 mins a day. The good news is my pain + depression is completely gone. Well, the heavy part is, it's still a pandemic after all. I like to believe that my discipline paid off, but I have changed a few other behaviors. But maybe it was the grounding that helped me get the energy that provided a domino effect that spilled into other areas—something to ponder. ;)

Here are 3 of the benefits of my Earthing (grounding) experiment:

  1. Felt an incredible boost of energy almost immediately. And no, it wasn't from coffee as I don't drink caffeine. On days that I grounded later in the evening, I was pretty sluggish prior.

  2. As you ground in nature, it's a great time to be still. AKA, not on your phone. Barefeet on the ground, and the stress starts to lift–like float into the ethers lift. Insert relief emoji. This and getting some positive ions from the sun, helped the depression lessen.

  3. That hip pain? It's gone. It was a slow process, but each day it felt slightly better. Then one day, I could my 10k steps around the Silver Lake Reservoir without the soreness that felt like I had 80-year-old hips.

There were some other perks from my daily ritual with Gaia, but I'll leave those for a different post. So would I recommend this practice? Hell yes. (Note: this isn't a sponsored post). I have reaped some fantastic rewards.

Now, if you don't live in a place like California, where there are some great spots available for nature, Earthing has options for you. I haven't had a chance to try the products, but I might be looking to get the grounding blanket with winter right around the corner.

No matter what your health state might be, getting time with Mother Earth sure is worth the commitment, plus it's free. It's also the perfect time to see how lucky we are to be in her presence. Happy grounding!
