How To Make Pomegranate Soda

Ready to make your own pomegranate soda? It's easy to do but you'll need a little patience when it comes to de-seeding the sweet fruit of the gods. Check out this post from Simply Recipes on how to do cut and de-seed your pomegranate with ease.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup agave syrup (or sugar - whatever you prefer as a sweetener)
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate juice
  • Soda Streamer or Club soda for serving

Directions

Crack open your pomegranates and start the de-seeding process. As mentioned above, Simply Recipes has a great step-by-step tutorial. Next, take the seeds and use a food processor or blender to juice. Take the blended seeds and pour them over a cheese cloth or strainer to get a clear version of the juice. Some prefer using double cheese cloth. I like using a metal strainer and spatula to press out the bulk of the juice.

Now in a small saucepan, combine the agave syrup and your fresh pomegranate juice. Next, bring to a boil over high, stirring until agave syrup has dissolved. Be sure to reduce to a simmer and allow to cook, without stirring, until the mix is nice and syrupy. This is will be about 2-3 minutes depending up on your stove.  I like to make this juice in bulk and refrigerate for about 1 week. It's a great syrup to make for parties, as it's the perfect mixer when combined with club soda or your fresh soda water from a Soda Streamer. Serve with 2 tablespoons of the syrup in your glass (Collins glass recommended), and top with club soda.

Too Busy to Make Syrup?

Skip the syrup making and pick up a bottle of POM Wonderful. Combine 1/2 cup of POM pomegranate juice with club soda and you have yourself a quick and easy version of pomegranate soda. If you want it sweeter, double the POM to 1 cup instead of a half. Cheers!
