Music Mania 11 / Cover Songs
This past Monday Sam and I joined our good friend Memphis George for a jam session. Now I'm not one that would normally jam as playing the hand bells and recorder are the instrumental skills I have thanks to Mrs. Deckeur during my jaunt at private school long ago, and sadly most people don't have those instruments hanging around their studio for one to play. Truthfully, it wouldn't matter anyway as I don't remember a lick of it because I was too busy being class clown and pissing off Mrs. Deckeur. But back to Monday, this jam session was pretty epic. Everyone was just having fun and enjoying themselves. The judgement train was nowhere to be found. The vibe was the exact opposite: the studio was filled with encouragement. I went from playing the shaker egg at the beginning of the night to laying it down with the tambourine—an instrument that I must have played during my past life as a hippie in the 70s. Shakin that shit so hard that I would like to think Cher and I could do a duet of Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves one day. Still waiting on that call. So this week's theme is dedicated to all those cover songs out there that inspire us newbies to rock out. On Monday only one cover was played and it was a good one: Iron Man by Black Sabbath. One of my favorite childhood memories.
If you have a favorite cover song, please share. This playlist will always be growing. I'm still on the haunt for a good Ring of Fire cover.
