#TBT: Music Leading Men on This Date
Throwback Thursday, what a great excuse to reminisce. It got me thinking what happened on this date? Well, here are some interesting facts regarding some of music's leading men:
"1955, CBS talent scout Arthur Godfrey turned down the chance to sign Elvis Presley, instead at the same audition he signed singer Pat Boone."
Elvis vs Pat Boone? Talk about missing a BIG opportunity. Elvis went on to be the King of Rock n' Roll and win over millions of fans with his leading role in Blue Hawaii.
1982, Metallica made their live debut when they appeared at Radio City in Anaheim, California.
Whiskey in a Jar? Yes, please! Lars and his band rocked harder than those before them. I was in disbelief when my older brother told me he saw Metallica open for Guns N Roses back in the 80s. Talk about a moment in time I would have loved to have shared.
1990, Michael Jackson was voted artist of the decade at the annual 'Soul Train Awards.'
Now on to the King of Pop. While his career ended in a sad note and lots of controversy, he left us with Captain EO, a kid named Blanket (now doing reports for ET) and a killer track list.
1995, With the release of 'Me Against the World' Tupac Shakur became the first male solo artist to have a No.1 album on the Billboard chart while in prison.
I guess there is always something new to be proud of. While I might not think being in prison is one of them, Tupac left everyone with stories to tell, some Hail Marys and a hologram that Sam and I witnessed at Coachella last year. Seriously, an epic moment where those drugged out of their minds thought the dead had come back to life. "Whoa, I knew he wasn't dead" - best quote I heard during the festival.
