Creative Play: Serpentine Dreams

When it comes to creative play, creating and practicing go hand and hand. It's crucial for keeping your creative spark alive and thriving. So how do I keep myself engaged even with a pandemic going on? Well, it starts with baby steps of commitment, discipline, passion, and grit. Add in a supportive group of friends. That's the cherry on top.

Before the pandemic, a group of us had a chance to do a photoshoot of our own. I made a creative deck of an idea I pitched to Sara called Serpentine Dreams. It came from a crazy meditation that involved the stone, serpentine, hence the name. From there, we were off to the races and started asking friends if they'd like to join. The added bonus of collaborating can be meeting new people. On the shoot day, I didn't know anyone except Sara and Loren, but I left there knowing 3 more individuals. All of them were so amazing to work with, and we just hit it off and had fun. The model, Monet, is such a light and joy to work with. Looking back at our shoot and reviewing the work created, I"m so thankful we made time to come together for this experiment. Sacrificing a brunch or trip to the mall isn't a sacrifice when you do something you love.

Since COVID still has us 6 ft apart from each other, I encourage you to still practice your creative play. Brainstorm, dream big, and think outside the box on how to get your project started if it involves more people. If it's something you can do solo, get moving on it. Don't hold back because of 2020's hurdles. I'm plugging away on creative decks and ready to get back into the studio with the people I enjoy to create more magic. A few of us are holding each other accountable and encourage each other to keep swimming.
