welcome

to the colorful journal of Marissa Berrini, creative director, artist and curator living in Los Angeles. Launched in 2010, Marissa's online journal tells of adventures with her husband Sam, their fur kids, the occasional cocktail creation and lots of conversations with inspiring people. This blog serves to celebrate tiny victories, inspiration for those times you're stuck in a rut and bring together a community that wants more than a perfectly curated feed of eye candy. Sometimes you just got to throw it out there and see where it goes!

confession: I love another...another phone that is.

Google's Pixel. Yes, you read that right. My poor iPhone has now been replaced. He (or she) is no longer number 1. The reason for this: Google's latest phone has the most insane camera for video and photos which I have to say is 80% of what I use my phone for most. Gone are the late night chats โ€“ unless my husband or me is traveling solo. My device is more about being a mobile office in my toolkit. Next, Google's assistant pretty much bitch slapped Siri to the curb. Believe me, I tested them with a basic question: which way should my tires point when parallel parking on a hill? Siri failed miserably while Google soared with results in video, photos and voice command. Now that's what I'm talking about.

As for the camera, in less than a week I've been able to shoot in low light without any hiccups. For someone that shoots lots of cocktails in low light situations, this camera is a lifesaver. I've also dived into more video. Here are the specs if you want more information or check on the link:

REAR CAMERA: 12.3 MP camera produces exceptional image clarity / f/2.0 with 1.55ฮผm large pixels for clear low light pictures / Fast autofocus in any light condition with Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) and Laser Detection Autofocus (LDAF) / 4K (30 fps) video capture to bring cinematic film quality to videos / Capture every detail with HD 240 fps (8x) and Full HD 120 fps (4x) slow motion video / Natural, broad-spectrum CRI-90 dual-LED flash

FRONT CAMERA: 8 MP camera produces exceptional image clarity / Light-sensitive 1.4 ยตm pixels for clearer photos in low light / Bright photos and sharp focus with f/2.4 aperture / Crisp filming through Full HD video capture (30fps)

The dilemma that I'm now facing is how to transition out of iPhone into an Android based world. My background in testing multiple platforms/devices comes into play. I've noticed that like a desktop, the image renders different from each device. On most iPhones, the coloring is pretty close from phone to phone but not the same when it comes to iPhone vs Android. The struggle is real guys. For me, an avid user of VSCO, I'm not sure if I can handle this torn love affair. At least I have a sturdy handbag to carry both until I make that jump. ;)
